Hartford Court visit Orchard Cottage at BeamishResidents at HC-One’s Hartford Court Care Home in Cramlington, Northumberland, spent the day reminiscing at Orchard Cottage.

Orchard Cottage is a cosy 1940s farm at Beamish Museum, which is full to the brim with fascinating and familiar sights, sounds, smells and even tastes.

Five Residents from Hartford Court attended, Sheila Drummond, Lily Innes, Edna Bainbridge, Lena Lowery, Jean Ward and her daughter.

Everyone was treated to a lovely cup of tea and some biscuits when they first arrived, before toasting some bread on the open fire and reminiscing about their childhood days.

Later, everyone enjoyed trying on lots of different hats before taking part in a sing-a-long. Edna wanted to play the piano for everyone, she thought that she wouldn’t be very good as she hadn’t played in years, but she was wonderful and made everyone really emotional.

After the visit to Orchard Cottage and seeing the pleasure that the Residents received from the piano, the staff have decided to buy a piano for the home.

The Residents loved the whole day and the memories that it brought back. Edna commented:

“Thank you so much, this is the best day I’ve had in a long time.”
