Guisborough care home Residents commemorate Armistice DayResidents and the team at HC-One’s Park House Care Home in Guisborough, Redcar and Cleveland, paid their respects to the fallen war heroes with a commemorative service of remembrance on Sunday.

On Sunday Park House held a traditional service of remembrance, conducted by retired Vicar Marion who along with her husband Alan are extremely close friends of Resident Margaret.

The service, which was made poignant and person for the Residents, included the Last Post and the lowering of the flag, which was carried out by retired Naval Officer Alan. The Residents all chose which hymns they would like, including Abide with Me and Eternal Father Strong to Save.

On Monday 12th November, a 1940’s knees up was organised with Wor Vera and Residents enjoyed a great singalong complete with flags. The event allowed them to reminisce about a time that, although difficult, was an era where people came together and comradery was the key to coping with conflict.

The Residents all wore their poppies with pride, commenting:

“Although it is a very emotional time for everyone, we feel we need to do this.”

Alishia Calvert, Home Manager at Park House, commented:

“We are honoured to hold this service for our Residents.”
