Guisborough care home celebrates Dementia WeekResidents at HC-One’s Park House care home in Guisborough have celebrated Dementia Week, which ran from May 20th to May 26th.

Dementia Action Week has always been very much celebrated at Park House but this year, staff felt they had to think of events for the Memory Care Suite that were possible at this time, with the restrictions in place.

First up was a visit from the ice cream man, what a lovely treat for Residents that was organised by Home Manager, Julie and housekeeper, Sam.  He came up the drive waving and playing his jingles, which were instantly recognised by Residents who then knew they were in for a treat. They enjoyed lovely creamy ice cream and a chocolate flake in a crispy cornet.

Next up, another visit, this time from Micky Mouse.  The Residents loved seeing Mickey and could not get enough cuddles with him, some wanted to shake his hand but everyone wanted their photograph with him.

Julie, Park House Home Manager recognised how important it was to celebrate Dementia Week, even with restrictions in place and said: “We still found ways to celebrate this special week for our Residents, I am so proud of everyone at the home.”

At the end of Dementia Action Week Residents and staff at Park House had a singalong show and party in the lounge. All the Residents joined in and some of them sang on the microphone on their own, before enjoying some light refreshments to finish off the afternoon.
