Grimsby care home travels back to the 50s for Care Home Open DayHC-One’s Brooklands care home in Grimsby travelled back in time to the 50s as the home opened its doors to the community for Care Home Open Day.

The nation-wide event gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. It focusses on bringing those who live locally into care homes to break down misconceptions, showcase what life is really like in a care home, and to highlight the skills and dedication of local people working as carers.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care’, with HC-One launching a national art competition for Residents and visitors to the home. Participants could create anything from paintings, drawings, knitting, poetry, calligraphy, pottery and more.

Staff dressed in 1950s and 1960s attire as Residents were joined by their loved ones for a day filled with exciting celebrations.

After a morning of singing along to some fantastic hits, the local vicar Sheena visited the home for a hymn service before judging the art competition.

Guests gathered for a BBQ lunch in the garden, which was followed by refreshing ice creams to cool down in the sun.

Barbara, a Resident at Brooklands, said: “It was great, I really enjoyed the day.”

Melanie Walton, Home Manager at Brooklands, said: “Everyone at Brooklands was delighted to contribute to Care Home Open Day with their fantastic art creations. We were delighted to welcome members of the local community to our Care Home Open Day to showcase our masterpieces and to let them discover more about the kind care provided by HC-One.”
