Celebrations were in full swing at HC-One’s Clarendon Hall care home in Humberston, Grimsby as Resident Betty celebrated her 102nd birthday.
Elizabeth Ellen Clegg, known to those closest to her as Betty, was born in Prestatyn, Wales on 9th June 1917; the year before World War 1 ended.
Betty enjoyed her career growing up, as she was one of the first people to work in the Weetabix factory when it first opened.
After marrying her husband Ben in 1947, Betty went on to have one daughter, who she named Irene.
When asked what her secret is to a long and happy life, Betty said she ‘just keeps going.’
Betty’s daughter helped organise a special party to mark Betty’s big day, as family, friends and fellow Residents joined in with the celebrations.
Clarendon Hall was decorated with balloons as guests enjoyed the entertainment from singer Alan Hill, who is a friend of Betty’s. Staff also organised a fantastic buffet, which included Betty’s favourite tipple of Advocat and lemonade, before presenting her a lovely birthday cake.
Betty commented: “Thank you to everyone, I have had a wonderful day.”

“Betty is a lovely lady and such an inspiration to the whole team at Clarendon Hall, as well as fellow Residents. It was amazing to see her smiling all day long as she celebrated her 102nd birthday alongside her loved ones.”
