Green fingered Residents transform Newcastle care home gardenGardening club members at HC-One’s Sutherland Court care home in Fenham, Newcastle-upon-Tyne have been busy transforming the home’s grounds into a gardener’s haven.

Green fingered Residents have come together to create their very own Gardening Club at Sutherland Court, the group meet regularly to plant flowers, herbs and vegetables as well as tending to the garden. 

The Gardening Club were keen to grow fresh vegetables which can be used for meals once they are harvested, including, potatoes, sweetcorn, tomatoes, marrows along with their own herb garden which will also be used in meal preparations.

New flowers have been planted to attracted butterflies and bees to the garden and lavender which will be used to create aromatherapy pouches once dried.

Residents in the Gardening Club have enjoyed being one with nature and helping maintain and tend to the beautiful garden area. One Resident, Louisa Gordon said: “I really enjoy being out in the fresh air, everyone seems to enjoy our time in the garden.”
