Catherine Meade, a Resident at HC-One’s Chandlers Ford care home in Hampshire celebrated her milestone 100th Birthday on Saturday 30th June.
Originally from Norfolk, Catherine was born in Burnham Market in 1918, growing up she developed her passion for gardening, after learning from her father who won prizes for his chrysanthemums and roses in Fakenham Flower Shows.
Although Catherine has lived in Hampshire for the majority of her life she still holds open saltmarshes, the beautiful Norfolk coast her hometown accent close to her heart. She also kept her ‘green fingers’ caring for plants especially her fuchsias and geraniums until she was no longer able to.
Catherine and her beloved husband Ronald Meade, a pharmacist raised three children and over the years were both part of the Gospel Hall communities at Sandy Lane, High Street and Velmore.
As the first person in her family to reach 100 years old, Catherine was pleased to receive a birthday card from the Queen. Surrounded by loved ones including her three children, five grandchildren and two of her six great-grandchildren Catherine enjoyed a buffet prepared by chefs at Chandlers Ford followed by a special homemade birthday cake.
Three family members travelled all the way from Canada to celebrate Catherine’s special day and see her turn 100-years-old. The lounge was beautifully decorated with balloons, banners and garlands where friends, family and fellow Residents gathered to watch a presentation by Catherine’s son, Roger who spoke about her life and all her treasured memories.
