Grampian Court celebrate VE DayHC-One’s Grampian Court Care Home in Peterlee, County Durham had a fun filled experience celebrating VE Day.

The day began with a World War II presentation by Ged Kirkbright who brought along antiques and memorabilia for the Residents to look at. Once again the staff at Grampian Court got into the spirit for the celebrations by wearing period fancy dress.

The Residents were seen reminiscing with vintage photographs, posters, coins and antiques from the period and the slideshow took many of them back to the time when they were young children or teenagers.

Everyone then enjoyed joining in with a sing-a-long whilst watching Residents Ivy and Betty have a dance with Ged and Julie, Grampian Court’s Wellbeing Co-Ordinator.

Jennifer from Musical Memories then came to entertain Residents, visitors and staff in the afternoon with her sensational voice. Residents enjoyed singing along to songs such as “Kiss Me Goodnight Sergeant Major”, “We’re Gonna Hang out the Washing on the Siegfried Line” and “Land of Hope and Glory”.

Resident Thomas Lindley commented:

“It was the first time that I had seen any entertainment at Grampian Court. I watched it with my family and had such a lovely afternoon.”

Resident Elizabeth Pennock commented:

“I found the presentation really interesting and it was lovely to be able to look at memorabilia from the war years.”

Grampian Court’s Deputy Manager, Ann Walsh commented:

“It has been lovely to see most of the Residents get involved in either the World War II presentation this morning or coming along to watch the entertainment this afternoon by Jennifer from Musical Memories”
