GBX Anthem loving Resident celebrates 100th birthdayMartha McKenzie is not your average centenarian, loving nothing more than to settle down on a Friday and Saturday night to listen to George Bowie's GBX Anthems, whilst sipping on a Southern Comfort and lemonade.

The great grandmother recently celebrated her milestone 100th birthday in style at a party with pals and staff at Wyndford Locks Care Home in Maryhill.

Born in Gray Street in 1918, the mum-of-two lived in the city centre area with her mum, six brothers and five sisters before she went on to marry husband Thomas.

She now lives at Wyndford Locks but Martha still likes to keep busy by playing bingo and dominoes – as well as cranking up the tunes on a weekend night.

Martha had a fantastic time at her birthday party, according to staff, where she enjoyed an Irish dancing displays, visits from family members and, of course, received a telegram from the Queen.

Wyndford Lock’s Home Manager, Karen Watson commented:

“It was great that everyone came together to help Martha celebrate this milestone with her telegram from the Queen.”

And her secret to a long life? Taking care of her appearance and working hard.

Happy birthday, Martha.
