A resident at Coopers Croft care home, in Stoke-On-Trent, and a local college student have teamed up to prepare the home’s garden for spring.
Coopers Croft care home is witnessing a blooming intergenerational relationship with Regent College, as a local college student and a green-thumbed resident are joining forces to breathe new life into the home’s garden. Ethan, a student from Regent College, and his support worker Blake visited Coopers Croft on Wednesday, February 26.
Ethan, who enjoys working with his hands and gardening, quickly struck up a friendship with Coopers Croft resident John Humphries, a passionate gardener. This led to a new friendship between the pair due to their shared passion for gardening.
The intergenerational relationship started out as a casual chat about plants and quickly grew into a shared mission to bring spring to the care home’s outdoor space. From picking the perfect blooms to plotting their Wednesday morning gardening sessions, the duo’s chemistry is as vibrant as the flowers they plan to plant.
Anita Rawlingson, Coopers Croft Lifestyle Manager, stated:
“The students and staff from Regent College are lovely. I love the fact that their students feel at home at Coopers Croft.”
John Humphries, Coopers Croft resident, said:
“He is a big lad and can now do the jobs I can’t do.”
Ethan added:
“Your garden is big, I can’t believe you have been doing it on your own.”
