There has been a reoccurring theme this month at
The Westbury care home, in Wiltshire, which offers residential and nursing care, as Residents have been outside enjoying the sunshine with a bit of gardening, as well as a trip to the local garden centre.
The home’s gardener Martin was in the process of sorting out some beautiful plants for the window baskets outside of the home, so this was a great opportunity for everyone to get involved. Six Residents, four Colleagues and even a family member joined in to help plant flowers in the baskets. Once they had done, the group sat in the sun and chatted about the weather with a nice cup of tea or coffee.
Everyone loved being outside in the sunshine, with one of the Residents commenting, “Lovely flowers and a nice morning. It was nice to be out and enjoying the sunshine.”
On the morning of Thursday 5th May, six Residents and six Colleagues took to the minibus and went on a trip to Lakeside Garden Centre in Warminster.
Once there, all sat down and were joined by one of the Residents’ family members and enjoyed a slice of yummy cake and a hot or cold drink.
They then slowly walked around the lake admiring the pretty flowers and all the plants on display; stopping on a bridge to investigate the lake which had huge carp in it!
Colleagues bought the Residents some duck food and they fed all the different ducks that were around, there were even geese there as well!
Once that was completed, the group travelled back to the home on the minibus, and all involved said that they had a really good time and enjoyed the morning out in the sun.
One Resident said, “It was a good day out and really enjoyed the morning, the weather was brilliant.”
Theresa Chacko, Care Home Manager, commented, “It was so nice that the Residents were out for the morning after not being able to because of lockdown.”
