Furry friends at Wigan care homeHC-One’s Westwood Lodge care home in Wigan opened its doors to some furry visitors on Thursday 24th January.

Residents welcomed a collection of weird, wonderful and some exotic creatures, some which they have met before along with some new faces which included Harold, the skinny pig, Frank the bearded dragon, Jasmine the skunk, Ben the rabbit and Fast Fred the tortoise.

Everyone loved meeting all of the animals and learning more about their behaviour and lifestyles, some opted to hold the creatures, while others were happier to get a close look.

Jane Davies, Home Manager at Westwood Lodge said:

“Pet therapy is very important, is can be a very stimulating and enhancing activity for Residents and has a positive impact on the physical and mental wellbeing. The opportunity for Residents to interact with far more unusual animals than the more regular household pets is a fun way to spend an afternoon.”
