A new nursing dementia care community has officially reopened at
HC-One’s Leighton Court care home, in Wallasey, Wirral. New resident Bob moved in this month and said how he is very happy.
Robert ‘Bob’ Sterling moved into the residential, nursing and nursing dementia care home on 4
th April this year and says that he has loved every minute. Bob likes to talk to colleagues in his first-floor room about his time in the RAF and his younger days when he met his wife. He is a fan of Ken Dodd and loves it when his dogs Lady and Jack, come to visit him.
When asked if he could sum up living at Leighton Court, Bob said:
“Brilliant! I am very happy.”
With Bob being the first resident to move into the newly refurbished community, he has been asked to pick the name of it and has already come up with a few options including ‘Sunshine Manor’, ‘Blossom View’ and the ‘Majestic Suite’.
Bob’s family commented that seeing him so happy makes them feel settled and content.
Bob’s wife Margaret and daughter, Susan, wrote:
“Three weeks ago, our dad had to move into an EMI nursing home. Many tears were shed as we had promised him that he would never have to. Since moving into Leighton Court, we have seen such a difference! Dad smiles and laughs again and loves the activity days.
All the staff go above and beyond, it is like an extended family.
The unit is like a 5-star hotel and the food is top quality. Dad calls his room his ‘happy place’ and says he only has to ask and he gets.
Now we just cry with happiness and sleep again. Knowing her is in the best place on the Wirral in our opinion.”
Marie Keating, Home Manager at Leighton Court, commented:
“We opened the new nursing dementia floor this month and welcoming Bob into our home was such a milestone, especially considering how much he enjoys it. Our wellbeing team involve him in all sorts of activitie4s, most recently our St George’s Day party, where Bob sported his England hat and enjoyed our karaoke disco.”
