February news from Kingswood care homeAt Wotton-under-Edge care home, Pennwood Lodge, which offers residential and nursing dementia care a cheese and wine tasting afternoon was enjoyed by Residents, as well as a Valentine’s Day full of love, this February. 

Residents requested a cheese and wine event at the last Residents meeting, so Colleagues organised a tasting afternoon with a selection of cheeses and homemade bread. Marie, Carson, Julie, Pauline, Christina, Sheila, John, Pamela and Terry, who all live at the home, thoroughly enjoyed the activity. 

Those involved also took part in a short history of the different cheeses and learned quite a few interesting facts. 

When voting, the Residents’ favourite cheese was Wensleydale with apricots.

One of the Residents said, “(it is) nice to have some wine!”

Sheila, who is a Resident, said, “What an enjoyable afternoon!”

Sarah Daly, Care Home Manager, added, “It was a lovely afternoon, we have all decided to have a monthly food club now!”

Following on, during the week leading up to Valentine’s Day, Relatives decorated hanging hearts and tealight holders, which Colleagues, including Tess who organised the event, used for the home’s Valentines afternoon tea. 

Head Chef Carl made a beautiful cake for the occasion and throughout the afternoon, Residents took part in a word game with the theme being valentines.

Everyone enjoyed getting together over a cuppa and challenging their minds.

Sarah remarked, “It was a good afternoon, all had a good laugh and it was nice to have our minds challenged!”
