Residents at HC-One’s Elstree Court care home in Eastbourne, East Sussex, have been enjoying a busy programme of activities over the month of May.
On the 6th May Residents at the 40-bed care home joined together to watch the King’s coronation on TV, an exciting moment of national celebration. After the ceremony Residents had a tea party where they sang and danced to Melinda, the live musical entertainer for the afternoon. Everyone agreed the spread of food was magnificent, with a selection of sandwiches, coronation chicken, quiches, sausage rolls and other savouries, trifle, and a large coronation cake for Residents to choose from.
Leading up to the celebrations the Resident’s had helped decorate the communal dining room with flags and bunting and reminisced about the last coronation for Queen Elizabeth II. They also talked about what advice they would give the new king, took part in a quiz, and sang the national anthem.
On the 12th May, Residents and Colleagues marked International Nurses Day by showing their appreciation of nurse’s dedication, kindness, and commitment. Small gifts and cards were presented to the nursing staff by Residents, and there was a delicious cake to share.
The arrival of warmer weather meant Residents were able to start enjoying the garden more and more, with gentle strolls whenever weather permitted. When conditions were inclement Residents watched videos of lambs playing and flowers blooming on YouTube, to get into the springtime spirt!
Finally, Residents celebrated the birthdays of Francis, Gladys, Domini, Beryl this month. Their rooms were decorated, and flowers and cakes were presented to them. They had ‘happy birthday’ sung to them and were wished a healthy and shiny year.
