Residents at a HC-One care home in Stockport dusted off their binoculars last weekend to celebrate 40 years of the famous Big Garden Birdwatch.
Newlands Care Home, situated on Heaton Moor Road, was also joined by St Thomas’ CE Primary School earlier in the week to prepare for the nature event.
The children from year 5, together with Residents, built their own bird boxes, read bird stories and played a variety of nature board games.
During the weekend, staff and Residents found a cosy window spot and spent time spotting different species of birds in their garden.
The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch celebrated its 40th birthday during the weekend, 40 years of citizen science contributing to the knowledge of why certain birds are flourishing and why others are not.
More than 8million birds were recorded across the UK during the 2018 Birdwatch.
Michelle Pepworth, HC-One care home manager, said: “This event provided the perfect opportunity for our Residents to enjoy observing wildlife in the garden, and share that enjoyment with children from the local primary school.
“Intergenerational activities have so many benefits and it’s always lovely to see the Residents faces light up when the children arrive.”
