At Sedgley Court Care Home, Valentine’s Day was more than just about flowers and chocolates – it was a celebration of love in all its forms. The home kicked off a special ‘Love Campaign’ to bring both residents and staff together to explore the many interpretations of love, creating an opportunity to reflect on what love means to them.
The initiative was designed to engage everyone at Sedgley Court, inviting residents to share their personal thoughts on love. Each resident spoke from the heart, revealing their own beautiful and unique ideas about love, making the day extra special.
Janet, a resident at Sedgley Court, said: “I think love is very nice if you can meet the right person. I met the right one. I love roses, gardening, and my car.”
Lillian, another resident, offered a more sentimental view: “I think love is when you find that person. I love my family and friends.”
Barbara, resident at Sedgley Court, said: “I think love is a great deal, important, you can’t do without it. Love is now the same for everyone. I love my family, my friends, movies, going to the pictures.”
Emma Chaffe, the Care Home’s manager, reflected on the deeper meaning of the campaign:
“Love makes the world go round, it’s important to everyone. It’s important for them to reminisce about those they have loved and lost. Love doesn’t stop when you come into a care home. We prioritize our residents here at Sedgley Court, ensuring they remember treasured memories, the people they loved, and keep those connections alive in memory.”
The 'Love Campaign' served not only as a way to honour the bonds of love but also provided a reminder that love is a timeless force that transcends age and circumstance. For the residents at Sedgley Court, love continues to be a source of joy, connection, and cherished memories.
