Douglas View Residents visit Celtic ParkResidents at Douglas View, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Lanarkshire, were invited along to Celtic Park.

Residents at Douglas View, nursing and nursing dementia care home, in Lanarkshire, were invited along to Celtic Park Football Club this April.

Some of the long-time Celtic fans from Douglas View were kindly invited to Celtic Park in Parkhead, the home of Celtic Football Club, and the largest stadium in Scotland, to enjoy some activities arranged by the Lisbon Lions memory group.

Celtic Football Club set up Lisbon Lions memory group for families and Celtic fans living with dementia. The group adopt a person-centred approach, delivering positive outcomes through activities and special events.

At the stadium, Residents were overwhelmed with the activities that Celtic Park had on offer, which certainly kept everyone entertained. Among the activities were sports games, quizzes and karaoke, which Residents thoroughly enjoyed taking part in. Residents John and Ricky loved singing old football songs on the karaoke.

The Residents enjoyed some fish and chips along with some other Residents from other care homes in the area. The Residents were keen to meet new friends, it was great for them to meet other Celtic fans and share their oldest football memories together.
One Residents, commented, “I loved the experience and the atmosphere of the stadium.”

Louise Fulton, Care Home Manager, remarked, “We have lots of Celtic fans here at Douglas View. It is great for them to visit the stadium and see other fans and Residents for other care homes.”
