Deputy First Minister of Scotland joins ‘Celebrating Together’ event at Balcarres Care HomeBalcarres, run by HC-One Scotland, located in Broughty Ferry, Dundee, was visited by Shona Robison, the Deputy First Minister of Scotland and MSP for Dundee City East as the home welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to the home to celebrate this year’s Care Home Open Week from 26th June to 2nd July 2023.

Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. The week provided care homes with the opportunity to showcase what they have to offer, their fantastic facilities, activities and services, and to remind their neighbours that they are there if they need support.

Balcarres was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with Residents, Colleagues, friends, family and people from the wider community they serve.

Residents and Colleagues of the HC-One Scotland owned home enjoyed meeting Deputy First Minister of Scotland, Shona Robison MSP and chatting to her about what life is like at Balcarres – which is an integral part of the local Broughty Ferry community.

Balcarres’ chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘Celebrating Together’. Throughout the week, Residents, Colleagues, families and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities which were enjoyed by all.

Visitors also enjoyed learning from Colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like and finding out about opportunities for community engagement and volunteering roles to support their local care home.

Lynn Mclean, Home Manager at Balcarres Care Home, commented:
“We were delighted to welcome the Deputy First Minister of Scotland, Shona Robison MSP to our home and open the doors of Balcarres to welcome in our local community and bring everyone together to celebrate Care Home Open Week 2023. Everyone had an amazing time.
“We are proud to support Broughty Ferry, and our Open Week celebrations provided a great opportunity to reconnect with our local community after the challenges of the pandemic, to support community engagement, and to remind our local community that our kind care teams are here if they ever need support for themselves or a loved one.”

Speaking about the visit to Balcarres Care Home, Shona Robison, MSP for Dundee City East, said:
“I was delighted to visit Balcarres Care Home during Care Home Open Week 2023. I was not only impressed by the exceptional facilities and services for residents but the attention to detail and thought that goes into creating a special family environment at the care home. It’s easy to see why the Balcarres team have won so many awards for their care, which is testament to the hard work and dedication of manager Lynn and her staff.
“Care Home Open Week’s a fantastic opportunity for the community, family and friends to connect with local care homes during open days and at fun-filled events that bring everyone together. I hope all involved enjoyed this year’s celebrations in Dundee and across Scotland.”
