Residents at
Defoe Court, residential and nursing care home in Newton Aycliffe have had lots of fun during the month of April.
To kick off the Easter celebrations both Residents from Defoe Court and St Clares Court had fun during the annual Easter bonnet competitions.
Eight Residents from Defoe Court joined the Residents over at the sister home to decorate Easter bonnets and enjoy a delicious afternoon tea. The Residents got competitive whilst making their bonnets but helped each other too!
The Residents really enjoyed the afternoon and especially liked the afternoon tea. They even got a chance to meet the new ducks which have recently arrived at St Clares Court! One of the Residents, remarked, “Getting together with St Clares Court and meeting new people has been great and I am already looking forward to going back for another visit.”
Later in the month, both Residents from Defoe Court and St Clares Court went on another trip to the local bowling alley. Residents Jack, Peter and Margart joined some of the Residents from St Clares Court for a friendly bit of competition. This activity is arranged once a month so Residents from both care homes can socialise.
Another lovely day was had by the Residents as the local nursery was welcomed back into the care home. Eight children from St Oswald’s Nursery to spend time with the Residents doing arts and crafts, singing and having fun.
The activity chosen was to make flags and decorations for St Georges Day. The children had great ideas and it was lovely to see the Residents interacting and having lots of fun.
One of the Residents, commented, “I have loved spending time with the little ones, seeing their smiles and hearing their ideas.”
Sarah Todd, General Site Manager, said, “We love the relationships we build within the community. The nursery visits are one of the highlights of the week.”
