Day trip to the Zoo for Kendal ResidentsThis week at Summerhill care home in Cumbria, which provides residential, nursing and nursing dementia care, a group of Residents enjoy their first ever trip to the zoo.

During the afternoon when everybody was sat around the living room, Residents were discussing what jobs they would’ve liked to do when they were younger. While many jobs came up, a couple of Residents mentioned how they would really have enjoyed working with animals or in a zoo and a couple had mentioned they hadn’t even been to one.

Sean, a Wellbeing Coordinator at Summerhill then contacted the local Dalton Zoo and they very generously offered the Residents some free tickets to visit their animals. The group packed a lovely little picnic and headed to Dalton, the Residents had an amazing time.

Joan, one of the Residents who attended said, “I’ve never been inside a zoo before, its wonderful!” Others mentioned how they enjoyed being able to walk around at their own pace and having the chance to see the beautiful animals up close.

Sean commented afterwards saying, “Having the chance to make our Residents dream come true is a very special feeling and I am glad I could arrange”.
