Croft Avenue take part in new pen pal scheme with students from Hayes SchoolHC-One’s Croft Avenue Care Home in Penrith, Cumbria has teamed up with Hayes School in Bromley, Kent to take part in a new pen pal scheme between the Residents and students.

Students from Hayes School in Bromley, Kent are in a class to improve their literacy and one of the exercises that they are taking part in is to write to the Residents at Croft Avenue at least once a term.

Residents love receiving the children’s letters and enjoy writing back and explaining about their lives; the areas they lived in, what they did before they moved to Croft Avenue and all about their families.

The students reply by writing lovely letters telling the Residents all about their lives, their animals, their holidays and anything that interests them.

Resident Beryl Sutton commented:

“I look forward to receiving a letter from Alana and hearing about her life. She is very interested in what I did during the war and I have been telling her all about the shelters where we went during the bombing.”

Croft Avenue’s Home Manager, Jacqueline Johnstone commented:

“This scheme has been such a huge benefit to both the students and our Residents, so much so that another four students from the school would like to be part of the pen pal scheme.

The school plan to visit Penrith next year for a few days during the summer and we can’t wait to welcome them.”
