Crewe couple mark platinum 70th wedding anniversary by sharing their secret to a long and happy marrOn Wednesday 14th August, at HC-One’s Hollymere House care home, in Haslington, Crewe, one resident and her husband celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary!

Edward Bertrand ‘Bert’ Edwardson and his wife Hilda Edwardson, who lives at the residential and nursing care home, were married on 14th August 1954 at St Helen’s Church in Tarporley, Cheshire.

The couple met at the regular dances in Tarporley Village Hall and went on to have a son, Peter, and daughter, Dianne. They have two granddaughters Becki and Laura, as well as four great-grandsons, Archie, Elliot, Oliver and Joshua.

Bert worked as an Office Administrator and Hilda was a Sales Assistant.

When asked about what their secret is to a long and happy marriage, they agreed:
“Give and take!”

For celebrations at the care home, the couple had a lovely time opening cards and gifts as well as indulging in a cake or two with their family, who visit Hilda on a daily basis. Daughter Dianne also supports the care home whenever she can by making crafts and helping on stalls for fundraising events.

Sharon Price, Home Administrator at Hollymere House, commented:
“It was an absolute joy to host a small get together for Hilda and Bert and hear their story.
What a huge achievement, 70 years!”
