Coalville care home celebrate VE DayHC One’s The Rowans care home hosted their very own VE Day celebrations today.

They started the day with a 2 minute silence to pay respects to the lives lost during the war. Residents then reminisced and told stories that they had from what happened 75 years ago.

At 12:30 the Coalville home enjoyed a delicious lunch of the nation’s favourite; fish and chips!

Later on in the afternoon the Residents were able to watch Churchill’s speech. They then went out into the garden, keeping socially distanced, with music playing and everybody singing out ‘we’ll meet again’.

It was such a special moment and lovely to hear others in the community join in as they walked past and from neighbours of the home too.

The day was finished off with a buffet and some lovely scones, jam and clotted cream.

Kym Hubbard, home manager, said “After a really tough month with Covid-19 it was lovely to see everyone laughing and singing and seeing the joy in everyone’s faces. This is what it is all about; fun and laughter. This is why I do my job so we can experience days like today.”

The atmosphere at the home was fantastic, the Residents had a brilliant day.
