Clean living key to long life according to centenarian StellaLiving a clean life is the key to longevity according to Stella Brewer, who has just celebrated her 101st birthday at Chandlers Ford care home in Hampshire.

The centenarian, who was born and bred in Southampton, spent her working life in the grocery industry. She married her husband Leonard, who served in North Africa and Italy during the war, in 1939, before welcoming the first of four children in 1941.

Stella celebrated her birthday with three generations of her family, including two of her daughters, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Chandlers Ford’s chef, Aga, prepared a buffet and baked a cake in honour of the special day, whilst banners and balloons decorated her bedroom.

Chandlers Ford Care Home Manager, Cassie Munnoch, commented:

“Stella is adored by all of the staff and we love spending time with her. It was a pleasure to host her special day and to see her enjoying the company of her extended family.”

When asked how she felt about turning 101 and what the secret to a long life is, Stella added:

“I don’t feel much different with every year that passes. There isn’t any secret to long life, I just don’t drink or smoke!”
