Classical music mornings at Cambridge care homeResidents at HC-One’s The Cambridge care home in Chesterton, Cambridge come together several times a month to relax and enjoy the beautiful music of infamous composers and live performance from young, talent musicians.

Margaret Whitehead tells us how the Classical Mornings at The Cambridge first started:

“Music has meant a lot to me throughout my life, especially classical and early music. Although I don't play an instrument, I used to love to sing in a choir for many years.

When I first moved to The Cambridge, I found that most music played here were modern and popular, which suits most people. One day, I sat in the living room at the bottom of the corridor and listened to my music. I thought it was nice place to listen to music, so I started doing this regularly and invited other residents to join me.

The first time nobody else came and I was about to give up, but then I was told that someone else may come, then there were two of us. Since then the Wellbeing team have organised the mornings, now we have around twelve people coming every week, sometimes even more!

I hope that the Classical Mornings mean as much to other residents as it has to me to share such wonderful moments together”

The Classical Mornings are now a very popular and anticipated event at The Cambridge, Julia Panek, a talent violinist visited the home in January to perform, which was enjoyed by everyone, Residents commented that she played beautifully.

Seweryn Ptak, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator said:

“I'm so pleased that Margaret's idea became one of our regular, and most popular activities. Her passion for classical music motivated our team to establish new community links and invite talented musicians to play classical music for our Residents.”
