A resident at HC-One’s Silverwood Care Home, in Beeston, has been celebrating her 100th birthday with a party surrounded by friends and family.
Brenda Ling was born on 15th November 2023 at Robin Hood Chase, St Ann’s, and worked as a dance tutor specialising in ballroom dance. In addition to her love of dance she also enjoyed playing bridge.
She has two children, Rosie, and Paul, one grandchild, four great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Brenda puts the secret to long life down to always having a sense of humour, not taking anything for granted, the support of her husband and family, and eating the right kind of foods as much as possible.
On her birthday, Brenda went out for the day and enjoyed a small family meal at the Boat and Horses pub in Beeston. The next day she was further treated to a birthday party at Silverwood Care Home, surrounded by her closest friends and two children, with a high tea, delicious birthday cake and celebratory prosecco.
The occasion was actually a joint-event, with 96-year-old Silverwood resident June Anderson also celebrating her birthday alongside Brenda. June put her secret to long life down to looking after herself and the love of a good partner.
Speaking at the party, Brenda said:
“It’s lovely how well the party has been organised and its delightful having my family and friends here. It’s also very nice to be celebrating my birthday together with June.”
Debra Meynell, Home Manager at Silverwood Care Home, said:
“What an amazing party, and well done to the team for putting so much time and effort put into getting this event arranged. We love a party here at Silverwood and a 100th birthday is always very special.”
