Carers from Fife Care Home raise over £300 through sponsored 52.5 mile walkOn Friday, three very excited and willing carers from Balfarg Care Home in Glenrothes, Fife met up with fellow colleagues from neighbouring HC-One care homes to walk the Fife Coastal Path from North Queensferry to Crail – a staggering distance of 52.5 miles.

Balfarg was represented by Lynda Elliott, Shirley Gallagher and Kylie Park, who are each taking part in the sponsored walk to raise money for the Resident’s comfort fund.

Day 1 was an 18.75 mile walk from North Queensferry to Kirkcaldy, day 2 saw them walk 19.25 miles from Kirkcaldy to Shell Bay and day 3 they all walked from Shell Bay to Crail which was another 14.5 miles.

Although the shortest distance was on day 3, it was deemed the toughest day because of the terrain. By the end of day 2 the girls all thought they wouldn’t be able to carry on as they were all aching and tired and were suffering with blisters but they all powered through.

Resident Jenny Craig commented:

“The three of them did so well! It was such a huge thing to do for everyone.”

Sharon Watson, Balfarg’s Home Manager commented:

“We, as a home, are so proud of the girls. This was something that they each volunteered to do and although they were in pain and struggling, determination and the thought of those in their care kept them going right up to the end of the walk.”
