For residents at
HC-One’s Rosebridge Court care home, in Hindley, Wigan, everyone is in for a delightful spring, spending time enjoying the outside space at the care home thanks to a very kind donation from local garden centres.
Robert ‘Bob’ Disley, aged 88, has been living at the nursing dementia care home since December 2022 and has always been a keen gardener since his passion started at the age of 17. Bob loves to spend time outside tending to the garden for all the other residents to enjoy.
With the aim of ensuring residents can continue their hobbies whilst at Rosebridge Court, and where the finished result can be enjoyed by all other residents, colleagues came up with an idea to add to their wellbeing and activities plan, by hosting regular gardening sessions for residents.
Bob was overjoyed at the idea!
Wellbeing Coordinator, Nicola reached out to several garden centres in Wigan and the surrounding area. She commented:
“We received a response from B&Q who were kind enough to donate some spring bedding plants and pots. We had a further response from Bents Garden Centre informing us they had a substantial donation to make.”
Everyone was so excited, and Bob accompanied colleagues on the home’s minibus to Bents Garden Centre, which is just a short 20-minute journey away.
At the centre, Bob enjoyed having a browse around and posed for photos while collecting the kind donation. Everyone was overwhelmed by the generosity, which amounted to hundreds of pounds worth of plants and shrubs, and will no doubt keep Bob busy during the coming months!
Cheryl Little, Home Manager at Rosebridge Court care home, commented:
“This is another truly inspiring event organised and coordinated by our wellbeing team in their tireless and continued efforts to bring happiness and smiles to our residents.
Bob was absolutely thrilled with the trip to Bents Garden Centre, plus the donation from B&Q, and has told me how much he is looking forward to making our gardens beautiful ready for Spring.”
Elaine Kenny, Unit Manager at Rosebridge Court, added:
“Our home will look beautiful when the planting is finished, thanks to Bents Garden Centre, B&Q and Bob’s hard work.”
Everyone hopes that residents, relatives and staff will enjoy the results when the garden is in bloom, not just this year but for many years to come.
