Margaret Wellington who lives at
HC-One’s Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn care home, in Skewen, Neath, celebrated her 100th birthday in style by taking part in a World Elephant Day Walk on Saturday 10th August.
Margaret, who was born on 3rd June 1924, adores elephants and has done since she was a child. When colleagues at the residential and residential dementia care home found this out, they arranged as part of the 100th birthday celebrations, for her to take part in the World Elephant Day Walk at Swansea Bay, in aid of 2Wish Cymru; a charity which aims to support families who experience sudden deaths
Margaret and the care team supporting her, including Claire Davies, Wellbeing Coordinator, and Lisa Llewellyn, Home Manager, were dressed in fancy dress as elephants and they all raised money for the 2Wish Charity.
The walk took place on the Swansea seafront and was a total of 5 kilometres. Everyone is encouraged to take the walk at their own pace and enjoy the day. Despite the drizzle, the rain did not dampen the fun and Margaret had an amazing day!
Maragret and colleagues at the home crossed the finish line and posed for photos, it was a truly special day and Margaret even got a medal.
Margaret Wellington said:
“It’s been an amazing day. I loved it and I gained another elephant!”
Lisa Llewellyn, Home Manager at Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn, commented:
“Margaret loved everyone making a fuss of her, especially when the organisers announced that they had a special guest who was 100 years old taking part!
It was so nice hearing everyone cheer and clap for Margaret, she was so happy.”
Cwrt-Clwydi-Gwyn is still in the process of collecting money for the charity and are excited to add it all up.
