Carders Court get Wild with ZooLab
Residents at Carders Court Care Home in Rochdale enjoyed a visit from some unusual animals when Zoo Lab visited the home.

 Zoo Lab visit the home regularly and all, residents, families and friends, always enjoy the session. Ella is the handler and has been to us a few times now with all her own exotic animals including a snake, tarantula and even some creepy crawlies such as millipedes.

Ella has lovely relationship with the Residents and takes the animals around the room giving each Resident the opportunity to touch and hold them. She spends time talking and answering people’s questions.  All the Residents were keen to get involved and really enjoyed holding the unusual creatures. Some didn’t like the idea of touching or handling the creatures but still enjoy seeing them and hearing the interesting facts about each creature she brings.

The visit from the Zoo lab is a really enjoyable and therapeutic experience for the Residents.

Wellbeing Coordinator, Heidi Carter, said:

“It is great to have such an unusual activity at the Carders Court, I enjoy it as much as the Residents and over time I have overcome my own fears and held snakes and today a cockroach.  We are definitely keen for Zoo Lab to visit us again and have already made our next booking with Ella”

Residents, Doris Carpenter and Norma Broadhurst both said;

“It’s definately something different! We never thought when we would move into a care home that we would have snakes and spiders visiting us but it has been an enjoyable morning“

Doris, added,

“It was the best activity ever! I absolutely loved it and it made my day.”
