Caramac and Alfie the Alpacas visit St James Park care homeResidents at St James Park care home, in Bradpole, Bridport, enjoyed a very special visit from two beautiful alpacas on Thursday 19th January.

Caramac and Alfie were brought to the care home by Alpaca Adventure at Copse View, based in Shaftesbury, Dorset, where the journeyed to each Resident, for some cuddles and the occasional treat.

Residents not only got up close to these wonderful animals but learned about their care and welfare including how old they were, what they eat and how they like to spend the winter. They had lots of questions to ask Wendy Williams, who is the alpaca farmer (see pictured with Residents).

Everyone was amazed at how friendly they are, even when visiting Residents in rooms.

Simon Cleveland, who lives at the 31-bed residential and nursing care home, remarked,
“They are so beautiful!”

Fellow Resident Phil Wilson added,
“I learned a lot today about alpacas’ lifestyle.”

All Residents enjoyed posing for photos with the lovely alpacas and giving them a good scratch and pat.

Wendy Williams, from Alpaca Adventure, said:
"It was amazing to see the looks on the Residents' faces when I walked around with Alfie and Caramac. One lady in particular, her face just lit up and it was just magical to see!"

Mihaela Barbulescu, Home Manager, commented,
“Alpacas are very friendly animals, and they loved their visit at St James Park. They’re comfortable in the lift so even Residents on different floors didn’t miss out on their visit. It was fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, especially as it can have real therapeutic benefits for Residents.”

All Residents enjoyed the visit so much that they have asked Alpaca Adventure to come back soon.
