When a Resident at The Gables care home suggested opening up a sweet shop, Colleague took it that one step further to make something truly incredible.
A small group of Residents and Colleagues organised a meeting and chatted about their favourite childhood sweets; remembering going to choose them with a few pennies from the local shop. Some lovely memories were brought up such as a popular favourite of White Mice, Sherbet Dips and Fruit Salads. Together the group planned what they needed for the new in-home shop to open.
Resident Gloria, Peggy, Gladys and Alan (pictured) along with Activities Coordinator Jane, started to make the suggestion into reality.
Peggy suggested, "Penny sweets in a paper bag,” as everyone enjoyed trying some sweets and chocolates.
"I remember the big jars and weighing scales,” Gloria remarked.
Home Manager, Helen Walters, said "Scrummy, Can I have a bag please?" as she walked passed.
Jane commented, “This activity will grow and be ongoing, we plan to collect some sweetshop jars, bags, scales and set up a shop in the home.”
