Caerphilly Home Administrator shortlisted for Outstanding Service Award at the Wales Care AwardsKatherine Shorney, Home Administrator at HC-One’s Church View care home in Caerphilly, a 45-bed residential and residential dementia care home, has been shortlisted for The Outstanding Service Award Category at the Wales Care Awards.

The nomination for the award is in recognition of her hard work and kind care shown to Residents, Relatives and Colleagues as well as the dedication and passion Katherine shows every day to ensure the people she supports receive the best quality care.

Katherine has worked in her job role at Church View Care Home for 14 years, and over the years she has become a well-known character in the home, going above and beyond to help others around her at Church View. Katherine has outstanding communication skills, is trustworthy, organises her time well and shows dedication to her job. She is a massive support and help to Colleagues, Relatives, Residents and visitors to Church View Care Home and her infectious positivity often rubs off on others. 

Home Manager, Ellen Smith, who nominated Katherine for the award, said:
“Katherine is often everyone’s go to person if anyone has any work-related queries, as she is always approachable, warm, knowledgeable and more than happy to help. Katherine is greatly respected by her team of Colleagues at Church View Care Home, as well as our Residents and Relatives. She has a kind, calming and caring nature as well as an ability to get along with everyone, including being there to offer a listening ear and advice when needed.” 

“She’ll often take the time out of her busy schedule to listen to stories Residents want to share with her, as she believes it’s important to treat Residents with a person-centred care approach. Katherine is truly the beating heart of Church View Care Home, she’s a key Colleague in providing the first impressions of the care home and therefore has a strong influence in upholding the reputation of the care home.”

The Wales Care Awards 2022 which returns following a two year postponement due to COVID-19, celebrate excellence and praise individuals who have demonstrated outstanding work within their field across the Wales care sector. The Wales Care Awards ceremony and award dinner will be taking place at City Hall in Cardiff on Friday 21st October 2022, when the winners will be announced across 19 different award categories. 

Commenting on her nomination, Katherine Shorney said: 
“Firstly, I’d just like to thank HC-One for allowing me to be part of such a wonderful kind caring company and would also like to thank our Home Manager Ellen Smith for nominating me for this award, I am thrilled to be nominated alongside such other brilliant Colleagues. 

The past few years have been very tough and challenging for our staff, Residents and their families especially throughout the pandemic. I am honoured to be receiving this award and can’t thank my work family enough for recognising my hard work and commitment. 

This is really a proud moment for me, I sincerely express thankfulness to all who have been involved in me achieving this award.”
