HC-One’s Thamesfield care home in Henley-on-Thames celebrated Burns Night with a traditional Scottish supper on Thursday 24th January.
Burns Night, is a celebration of the life of the bard Robert Burns, born 25th January 1759. The day also commemorates Burns' contribution to Scottish culture, including his best known work, Auld Lang Syne.
Residents came together to enjoy a delicious supper of cock-a-leekie soup, haggis with neeps and tatties or Scottish salmon followed by a tipsy laird. The tipsy laird proved to be very popular with the group, due to the large amount of whiskey used to make it.
Afterwards, Residents read the Selkirk Grace and the traditional addressing of the haggis was performed. Everyone had a read evening, with Residents commenting that it they enjoyed the haggis and celebrating the life of Robert Burns.
