Brownies young and old share their experiences at care homeA 91-year-old former Brownie leader recalled her memories of being in the famous Girl Guides group during a visit from children at Brandon House in Coventry recently.

Dorothy Henwood, Brownie leader at the 28th North Coventry St Albans branch, which was based in Valley Road in 1965, met with Brownies from Alderman Green after they came into the home to sing Christmas Carols.

Sheryl Davis, HC-One Care Home Manager at Brandon House, commented: “It brought back many fond memories for Dorothy when we received a visit from the Brownies and she was delighted to be able to share her wonderful stories with them.”

Dorothy dug out an old black and white photo featuring her daughters from her days as a leader and the children recited the new version of the “Brownie Promise.”

The Girl Guides was formed in 1910, providing an opportunity for children to build friendships, experience new adventures and give back to their communities. Today there are ten million girls and women involved in guiding worldwide.

Based in the attractive area of Bell Green on the outskirts of Coventry, Brandon House is a purpose-built care home offering nursing dementia care. Individual care plans and varied activity schedules ensure that residents are able to join in community life and pursue their individual hobbies.
