Blacon care home Resident reflects on her lifeA Resident at HC-One’s Lauren Court care home reflected on her life recently as she sat with Colleagues of the home to speak about all that she’d done.

Doreen Parry is a 90 year old Resident at the home who enjoys taking part in the regularl activities whilst also being a part of the daily life in Lauren Court.

Remarked as being well-known to everyone in the home, Doreen, or ‘Do’ as she is nicknamed, is also a familiar face to those coming into the home as she spent some of her working year in the local post office.

She fondly remembers her days in the post office, where children would come in and use their pocket money to buy sweets and presents for their parents each week. Doreen still keeps in regular contact with her friends and their families from her days in the post office, and says she has fond memories of her time spent there.

Doreen recalls her husband Mick and son Paul both working as mechanics through their lives, remarking that they were both very kind, gentle and hard-working men, with Paul being the key to helping her initially find work once he began school as he put her name forward to his headmaster for a cleaning job, which she was delighted with.

A keen fan of Perry Como, Doreen enjoys listening to music and taking part in a variety of activities from crafts to quizzes.

Home manager, Sarah Molly, commented: “Doreen is such a wonderful lady, it’s amazing that she gets involved in so many of our activities in the home and we are so glad to have her here in our home.”
