Blackpool illuminations evening trip for Leigh ResidentsOn Wednesday 12th October, Residents at Richmond House care home, in Leigh, had their first evening trip to Blackpool to see the 2022 Illuminations.

The group of Residents, Maintenance Colleague Roy Kingsley and Wellbeing Coordinators Sonia Walshaw and Philip Scott set off from the 49-bed nursing care home at 6pm and arrived in Blackpool at 7pm. They drove through Blackpool itself, then headed down towards the illuminations.

Residents seemed thrilled to see how much Blackpool had changed and how many people were out to see the lights. They were telling stories of when they used to travel to Blackpool when they were children, and how they have year after year. Some even talked about bringing their own children and grandchildren.

The group also had refreshments in the minibus whilst driving through the illuminations and even had a singalong to the radio both on the way there and back.

Ann Gilroy, who lives at Richmond House, commented, “Fantastic evening out, I really enjoyed myself.”

Yvonne Lawrenson, also a Resident, said, “I have really enjoyed getting out, it has been lovely to see the illuminations”

Everyone loved seeing the illuminations and the new decorations Blackpool have.

Sonia remarked, “(It was a) fantastic evening, and was lovely to see Residents who don’t always join in with activities getting out and enjoying themselves.”
