Birds of prey swoop in to Skellingthorpe care homeHC-One’s White Gables care home in Skellingthorpe welcomed some winged friends into the home for a day of fun.

Residents, visitors and staff gathered for the opportunity to admire and hold some magnificent birds of prey, including a native Barn Owl, an American Harris Hawk, a Eurasian Eagle-Owl and much more.

Using the falconer’s gauntlet Residents had the chance to hold the different birds and have their photo taken, it was also a great opportunity to learn about the different characteristics and habits of the birds.

At the end of the session, handler Tony Butler also showed everyone a red-bellied Mexican bird-eating spider. Some Residents were not as keen to meet the spider but everyone is looking forward to Tony’s visit to the home later this year with more of his exotic animals.

A great day was had by all, with Residents commenting that it was lovely to handle such beautiful birds.
