Bingham care home supports local charity’s winter coat appealHC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home in Bingham, Nottingham, has been helping a local homelessness charity by organising a winter coat donation charity appeal.

Staff and residents at Fosse Way View Care Home, which provides personalised care packages for people who require supportive residential care, set up the winter coat donation appeal via Facebook.

Fosse Way View Care Home encouraged members of the local community to drop off their unused winter coats so that they could be donated to The Friary, a West Bridgford-based homelessness charity, to pass these on to individuals experiencing homelessness.

The Friary is a registered charity which operates in the Nottingham area. The Friary’s mission is to empower homeless and vulnerable adults to rebuild their lives by offering practical services, advice and emotional support.

Every year the charity caters for 15,000 visits from local people who are suffering the effects of homelessness, substance misuse, financial destitution and social isolation.

HC-One’s Fosse Way View Care Home acted as a donation point for residents, relatives and the community, and over 50 coats were donated.

The coats were sorted by Fosse Way View residents before they were delivered to the Friary by residents Virginia Whitmore and Georgina Youdell, along with Maintenance Operative, Will Turns and Wellbeing Coordinator, Fiona Benning.

There they were met at the Friary by Ann Bremner, who founded the drop-in homeless centre 35 years ago.

Ann Bremner, Founder of the Friary Charity said:

“It costs us £400,000 a year to keep the building running, we raise money through fundraising and community involvement is invaluable to us”.

Fiona Benning, Wellbeing Coordinator at Fosse Way View Care Home, stated:

“It was a very emotional visit. Will and I have signed ourselves up to fundraise for the Friary, as the work they do is amazing”.

Fosse Way View Care Home resident, Virginia Whitmore, commented:

“The visit was very humbling. Hearing about all of the people that the charity supports, made me realise how lucky we are.”
