Basildon care home awarded for intergenerational initiativeHC-One’s Ghyll Grove care home in Basildon is celebrating their achievements after winning award at the Essex Care Sector Awards: The Prospers 2018 on Tuesday 4th December. 

Ghyll Grove was awarded the ‘Best Partnership and Collaboration Award’ at ceremony held at Chelmsford City Racecourse. The award recognises a provider that has worked in partnership with other organisations to achieve the best outcomes for individuals and/or the system.

Over the past eight years, Ghyll Grove has built a strong relationship with Pioneers School, a school for children with special needs. Every month Residents visit the school to spend time with the pupils, the children also visit the home on a regular basis.

The visits have helped form intergenerational bonds, through sensory sessions, games and other fun activities. Children from Pioneers School helped Residents at Ghyll Grove to ‘pimp their walking frames’ with personal touches to help prevent falls.
 
Mr J Sorrenson, a Resident of Chelmer House in Ghyll Grove commented:

“I really enjoy the children visiting us as much as I enjoy going to visit them. Just seeing all of their smiling faces takes be back to my younger, care free days.”

“Seeing the relationships between the Residents and children form and grow is such a delight to witness. 

"The visits have a significantly positive impact on the mental and physical wellbeing of Residents and we will continue to work closely with Pioneers School to nurture the intergenerational bonds.”
