Barleystone Residents go over the wheel and through the rainbowResidents of Barleystone in Falkirk which offers nursing care and nursing memory care for those living with dementia, had their first trip out since Lockdown started.

The care home’s Wellbeing Coordinator’s daughter works at the Falkirk Wheel and kindly donated 3 tickets for the Residents.  The tickets were booked for Friday 3rd September 2021 and the packed lunches were prepared for the day out.

Colleagues took Tom, Catherine and Margaret out in the minibus and onto the canal boat Archimedes where they went over the Falkirk Wheel and along the canal through the fantastic light show in the Roughmute Castle tunnel.

Everyone had a great time and enjoyed their picnic afterwards. Tom especially enjoyed telling everyone some of Falkirk's history

Catherine's daughter said, “It was lovely to see the Residents getting out and about again”.

One of the Residents said, “I really enjoyed the trip on the boat and the packed lunch with a cup of tea”.

Margaret and Catherine both Residents at Barleystone said, “The lights were beautiful”.  Catherine said, “It was lovely and Tom enjoyed seeing the local countryside from the boat”.

Wellbeing Coordinator Morag Whyte said, “It was a fantastic feeling to get out of the home and get away on the minibus”.

Pamela Cummings, Care Home Manager said, “It was such a lovely treat for the Residents especially with them not being able to go out for such a long time”.
