The autumn festivities have begun at
Millbrook care home, in Stalybridge, Tameside, as Residents, Relatives and Colleagues celebrated Halloween and Bonfire Night in style.
Halloween at the Millbrook commenced with a party which was held in the main lounge. Colleagues came in dressed up, much to the amusement of Residents. They particularly enjoyed Gavin’s ‘Uncle Fester’ costume from The Addams Family.
Everyone made such an effort for the event. Annie, who is one of the Relatives also came in dressed up as a day of the dead voodoo master and Jackie Wright, who lives at the 46-bed residential care home, dresses as a vampire (see pictured).
A lovely buffet was served by the kitchen team and the drinks trolley came out for cocktails that were served in Halloween themed ‘blood bags’, which was a funny talking point among all involved.
Colleagues also hosted a raffle and a tombola, which took place throughout the evening with Colleague Vicky winning the main prize the bottle of whiskey.
Jackie joked, “I wanted to win the whiskey!”
Claire Jones, Home Manager, commented, “It was lovely to see the effort that went into creating a wonderful evening for our Residents, Colleagues and Relatives.”
Following on, just a few days later a fireworks party was held at the care home. at the Millbrook
The annual fireworks display took place in the home’s garden, with Residents watching from indoors, Relatives were also invited to join in with the fun.
All joined together in the main lounge and enjoyed a potato pie supper, whilst Gavin lit up the sky with fountains and roman candles.
Jean, who is a Resident at the home, said, “That potato pie was lovely!”
Sheila added, “The pastry was perfect.”
The Residents enjoyed the fireworks and as they wrapped up in blankets and tucked into their food, described the display as ‘pretty’.
The highlight of the show was leaving the best firework till last and it not working, which everyone had a great laugh at!
Claire added, “We hold a fireworks display every year and everyone really enjoys the getting together! It was such a fabulous evening for all involved.”
