August news from Crookes care homeIt has been another very busy month at HC-One’s Alexander Court residential and nursing care home, near Sheffield, with birthday celebrations, book lovers day and of course the weekly singalong!

On Wednesday 4th August, Residents and staff came together to celebrate Bob turning a fantastic 101 years old!

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions last year, Bob’s 100th was thin on the ground, so Alexander Court decided to make up for it and go big, after all it’s not every day you turn 101!

Everyone enjoyed a sing-along to oldies sang by the wonderful entertainer, Bev Rooker.

Kerry, Kitchen Manager created a special birthday Jaffa cake for Bob and whipped up a tasty buffet.

Bob commented, “This is the best birthday ever!” His family were also very grateful and said they had a wonderful time too.

Dawn, Deputy Manager, remarked, “I am very happy that we could make up for Bob’s 100th last year.”

On 9th August, in honour of ‘Book Lover's Day’, Residents at Alexander Court were treated to the ‘Travelling Library’.

They had different genres available, along with mystery books, where the books were covered and only a brief description given, as you know, "You never judge a book by the cover!"

Residents loved having some different books to read and picking which took their fancy.

Last, but certainly not least, Wednesday at Alexander Court resulted in a special singalong. As the Residents enjoyed her singing so much, they decided to ask Bev Rooker back for a special morning singalong after Bob’s birthday.

The sun was out and everyone was singing and dancing along to well-known tunes such as ‘You Are My Sunshine’ and songs by ABBA.

Dot, who is a Resident at the home, enjoyed it so much she asked for a special request the next time Bev comes to visit, “Can you play some Garfunkle the next time you come?”

Dawn added, “It was also nice for Relatives to be able to listen and join in with their family during their garden visits. Everyone enjoyed being in the sunshine having some fresh air and listening to good music.”
