Residents at HC-One’s Ashgrove Care Home, in Hounslow, have spent an enjoyable afternoon reading magazines and relaxing with coffee and baked treats.
Colleagues at the 49-bed care home, which offers nursing dementia care, provide Residents with a programme of different activities each week. The aim is to encourage and foster an atmosphere of fun and inclusion and ensure that as many interests are catered for as possible.
Resident Bryan Collins enjoyed reading an article about two twins, joking “they don’t look very alike to me!”
Home Manager Jane Kingsmill commented: “This was a great opportunity for our Residents to have a bit of quiet time and catch up on interesting and amusing articles with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. Although reading can become more challenging for people with dementia, shorter form magazine articles with photographs are more manageable and allow Residents to continue to enjoy the written word”.
