Art extravaganza as Retford care home celebrates Care Home Open DayHC-One’s Barnby Court care home in Retford was delighted to welcome the local community to join Residents in celebrating the seventh annual Care Home Open Day.

The nation-wide event gives local people the opportunity to learn more about the care services at the heart of their community. It focusses on bringing those who live locally into care homes to break down misconceptions, showcase what life is really like in a care home, and to highlight the skills and dedication of local people working as carers.

This year’s theme was ‘Celebrating Art in Care’, with HC-One launching a national art competition for Residents and visitors to the home. Participants could create anything from paintings, drawings, knitting, poetry, calligraphy, pottery and more.

Barnby Court was delighted to engage with the local school as 16 students visited the home and produced two Armed Forces-themed canvasses to display for Residents and guests to admire.

Residents also joined in with the arts and crafts, creating decorations to be displayed around the home.

One Resident commented: “It was lovely to have the children come in and visit us, they were so creative and so polite.”

Margaret Greaves, Home Manager at Barnby Court, said: “It was lovely to invite the local school pupils to take part in our art celebrations for Care Home Open Day. We are already looking forward to inviting them back to the home to spend more time getting to know our Residents.”
