Residents at
St Peters Court care home in Redcar, have had lots of fun throughout the month of April.
On the 13th of April, a lovely morning was spent crafting and baking with Eve a regular volunteer at the 67-bed residential and residential dementia care home. The cakes were decorated for the ‘Let’s Dance’ afternoon which was being held on the same day.
There was lots of buttercream in different colours that the Residents could use to make beautiful cakes. Half the cakes didn’t last until the afternoon as they were too delicious.
Everyone thought the cakes looked beautiful and the tasted even better. One Resident, Lynn,
remarked, “I have already eaten my cake, it was too good to leave till the afternoon.”
Later that afternoon, Residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon of dancing. Derrick the DJ took requests from the Residents, the music played was from the 1950’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. Some of the dancers were played on the big screen for the Residents to copy along too.
Every Resident got up to dance on several occasions and those reliant on a wheelchair had several spins around the dance floor.
Eric loved waving his arms as we danced, Angela boogied to Abba and Boney M, Tim spun around to anything being played. Brenda enjoyed getting up to dance with her daughter which was lovely to see. She said, “Dancing with my daughter was so special.”
Everyone sang until they could sing no longer and laughed until they cried. Tea and cakes were served during the dance, and it was a fantastic afternoon.
Then on the 14th of April, four of the Residents went out on a trip to Saltburn. The sun was shining and, on the way, there Residents sang, ‘Summer Holiday’ which was very fitting for the day.
There was a cool breeze in Saltburn but that was not stopping the Residents from having a good day!
The first stop was the ice-cream shop where Residents Angela and Nora enjoyed a big ice-cream which they said was delicious.
The Residents enjoyed a lovely walk along the seafront and Lynn one of the Residents wanted to give cuddles to all the dogs she saw! She particularly loved a small fluffy dog called Barney.
Everyone had a lovely day out. Eric, one of the Residents, said, “I love paying a visit to my hometown of Saltburn.
Jamie Stephenson, Care Home Manager, remarked, “All of the Residents have had lots of fun recently especially at the let’s dance afternoon.”
