An emotional reunion at Peniel Green There were tears of joy and elation for two Residents at HC-One’s Peniel Green care home in Swansea, as for the first time in four months, husband and wife, William “John boy” Lewis and Maureen Lewis were reunited under the same roof.

Prior to his admission John Boy lived at home with his wife Maureen but was admitted to hospital on Christmas Eve 2017. Shortly after the New Year Maureen, aged 84 was also admitted to hospital. John Boy was then was moved to Peniel Green in February 2018 leaving his beloved wife behind.

Maureen was now needing 24 hr care, so her daughter Melanie, knowing how much Maureen missed her husband, enquired about a placement for her mum at Peniel Green.

When home manager Joanne went out to assess Maureen, Joanne asked Maureen how she felt about leaving her home and coming to Peniel Green, Maureen replied,

“My home is wherever my husband is.”

Assessments were completed and after being separated since Christmas Eve, accompanied by her daughter’s Melanie and Michelle and son Wayne, Maureen was finally re-united with her John Boy.

John Boy was overjoyed to see wife again and shed many tears of joy.

The pair have been married for a momentous 66yrs.  When the overjoyed couple was asked what their secret was to a long and happy marriage was, they laughed and said:

“It’s all down to give and take and a good sense of humour!”

HC-One’s Peniel Green Home Manager Joanne De Valda, remarked:

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Maureen to finally join us and her husband. It was a very emotional day for everyone involved to see John Boy and Maureen re-united again and to see him holding his wife’s hand and telling her that he loved her very much. Many of the care colleagues shed a tear!”
