All aboard! Doncaster care home Residents enjoy summer sail on Ethel Barge tripResidents at The Beeches care home in Doncaster set sail down the Stainforth and Keadby canal as they hopped on board the community-ran Ethel Barge this week.

Six Residents took part on the journey, as they spent their day soaking up the sunshine on the deck and reminiscing as they passed familiar sites on the banks of the canal.

Everyone enjoyed the scenic route, as they watched lambs chasing each other in the fields and ducklings following their mothers along the water.

The highlight of the trip for Residents was having the opportunity to help steer the boat and open the lock gates, which everyone thoroughly enjoyed before settling down for a delicious portion of fish and chips and a cup of tea.

Resident June said “It was such a wonderful day”, while Nellie thanked The Beeches staff members for accompanying them on the trip on their day off.

Lauren Wilde, Home Manager at The Beeches, said: “It was lovely to see the Residents having such an amazing time on the barge trip. We would like to thank the Ethel Trust for providing such a fantastic opportunity for our Residents, and we are looking forward to organising similar events for our home in the future.”
