Abermill Care Home, run by HC-One, located in Abertridwr, Caerphilly, welcomed visitors and guests from the local community to participate in this year’s Care Home Open Week celebrations from 24th - 30th June 2024, with HC-One’s main celebration events taking place during Care Home Open Weekend (28th – 30th June).
Abermill was delighted to open its doors to celebrate Care Home Open Week with residents, colleagues, friends, family, and the wider community.
Care Home Open Week is a national event hosted by Championing Social Care, designed to connect care homes with their local communities. The week provided care homes with the opportunity to showcase their range of services, provide tours of their facilities, and highlight the activities that are offered to residents.
HC-One’s chosen theme for this year’s Care Home Open Week was ‘dancing together through the decades’. Throughout the week, residents, colleagues, families, and friends enjoyed a variety of fun-filled activities culminating in an end-of-week celebration at the home.
Residents choose the 1980's as the theme and through the week they took part in activities such as quizzes and table-top games which were popular in the 1980's such as ‘Snakes and Ladders’, ‘Guess Who?’ and ‘Operation’. There was also some time spent doing garden games, with residents particularly enjoying ‘Swing Ball’.
On Friday 28th June, Abermill Care Home we welcomed members of the public, family, friends and the Deputy Mayor, Dawn Ingram, to visit.
An entertainer sung hits from the 1980's and staff and relatives made a huge effort with fancy dress. There was a buffet, drinks and a traditional Mr Whippy ice cream van.
Six colleagues were also presented with a HC-One ‘Kindness in Care Award’ for their hard work, dedication and continuation to make Abermill a wonderful place to live and work.
Abermill Care Home was decorated especially for the occasion and the celebration was a chance for everyone to come together as a community, and to learn more about life at the care home.
Visitors enjoyed learning from colleagues in the home about what a rewarding career in care looks like. They also found out about opportunities for community engagement and about the volunteering roles on offer designed to support their local care community.
Dawn Ingram, Deputy Mayor, commented:
“Everyone was so welcoming, thank you so for much the flowers, food and drink and hospitality, the residents are so happy, and you can see that the care staff know them well and that they are well cared for. Thank you for the invite.”
Christine Tipper, Home Manager at HC-One’s Abermill Care Home, said:
“I am so proud to be part of this week, the team have pulled off yet another fantastic week and today has been exceptional, it’s so nice to see everyone be together in one place and having fun with the people we care for.”
“It was a lovely week and a massive thank you to all that contributed.”
